Alarm Monitoring

What is Alarm Monitoring?
Your security system is designed to plug into a device called an RJ31X jack installed at your premises on one of your regular telephone lines. When activated, a relay in your security system "seizes" your phone line and gives the security system priority use of this line, allowing the security system to report its signals to the Monitoring Center. The Monitoring Center receiving equipment determines the type of signal and matches the Alarm System ID and Signal Codes against the Central Data Base, which is immediately sent to the 24 Hour Dispatchers.

How does it work?
Upon receiving a signal from your alarm system, Monitoring Center Dispatchers will immediately call your premises to verify the cause of the alarm signal. If the premise phone is answered the respondant is required to give a secret password or account number that is stored securely in our databases. If we do not receive an answer that is correct or if an answering machine picks up, we can immediately dispatch your local authorities and/or contact your approved call list. If a panic button is triggered we will dispatch the police immediately. If a smoke detector signal is received, we will call premises to verify the alarm and if we receive no verification we dispatch the fire depatment.

What if I want to test my system?
By calling the Monitoring Center and requesting that they put your system into a "test" mode, you can activate the system and then test any feature you have. The Monitoring Center Dispatchers will be happy to inform you about the signals they received and where they came from in the home. You will need to supply the dispatcher with your secret password, to be able to place the system in the test mode.

What if I accidentally set off my alarm system?
If you ever accidentally set off your security system, don’t worry. Please call the Monitoring Center immediately. In most cases, you will stop transmission of the alarm signal before it reaches the Monitoring Center. However, it is best to call us right away. If we do receive the signal, the Monitoring Center Dispatchers will call you immediately. When you answer the phone they will identify themselves and ask you to do the same. Here is where you will give them your secret password. They will not dispatch the police to your home if you simply tell them your password. CAUTION: If the signaled received is a “panic” signal, we dispatch the authorities first and they call you.
